Loving God, loving our community and loving one another since 1855.
We’re planted among those we love
We have a big heart for our community because our roots are deep, with countless saints, young and old, coming through our doors over the years.
Our services started in a humble log cabin, then moved to the local one-room school house. In 1855, we moved to our present location after John Hocking started a capital campaign, saying: “Boys, if you want a church, I’ll start it with a $100.” Over time, the Veta Grande, Mt. Zion, Wiley, Council Hill and Scales Mound churches became one church community.
Our pastor is Libby Rutherford. She received her Master of Divinity and Certificate of Spiritual Direction from North Park Theological Seminary, and is a recovering lawyer. She and her husband Jay live in the countryside between Scales Mound and Apple River.
